Chris Cornell, whose unmistakable multi-octave singing voice branded Seattle’s Soundgarden as one of the true grunge-era standouts, died last night in Detroit following a concert there by the reunited band, the Associated Press reported. Police are investigating Cornell’s death as a possible suicide. He was 52.
Post-punk legends act Wire today announced a 13-date north American tour this September in support of its recently released 15th studio album, Silver/Lead. The trek opens Sept. 16 in Chicago, and includes dates in the midwest and on the East Coast, wrapping up with three nights in Brooklyn. See full dates here.

Classic synthpop outfit Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark this week announced they’ll release their 13th studio album — the group’s first record since 2013’s English Electric — this September, to be followed by a fall tour of the U.K. and Europe. We’ve got the first song released off the new album.
The Sisters of Mercy will follow up a pair of festival appearances in August with an 18-date European tour, opening with a pair of previously announced London shows and continuing throughout September with dates in Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Luxembourg and The Netherlands.
