A sparse, early demo of the Talking Heads’ 1986 single “True Stories” surfaced online over the weekend, offering fans a glimpse at the origins of the track, which was recorded during the band’s simultaneous for 1985’s Little Creatures and 1986’s True Stories, and became the breakout hit from the latter album.

Vince Clarke — he of Erasure, and former stints in Depeche Mode and Yazoo, of course — has been playing the occasional DJ set of late, and he’s got another one booked for June 22 at Velvet Underground in Toronto. Barcelona’s Primavera Sound is underway this weekend in Spain, and one of Friday’s highlights was an appearance by The Jesus and Mary Chain, who brought My Bloody Valentine singer/guitarist Bilinda Butcher up on stage to sing backing vocals on the classic “Just Like Honey.”

It’s Morrissey’s birthday today, and while the ever-dour singer celebrated by declaring war on foie gras, one of his fans took the opportunity to drop a real surprise, marking Moz’s 54th with a leak of ultra-rare, pro-shot video capturing the singer’s first-ever solo concert, with Moz backed by Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce, in full.

The Dream Syndicate opens its second run of European reunion concerts tomorrow, but bandleader Steve Wynn already is thinking bigger, raising the possibility of recording new music with his old band with a very specific goal in mind: making the “missing” album to bridge the gap between its first two records.
