Robert Smith led the current incarnation of alt-rock titans The Cure through a greatest-hits set tonight filled with big singles, fan favorites and a couple rarer cuts as he celebrated the band’s 40-year career with a huge outdoor festival in London’s Hyde Park. Elvis Costello today revealed he underwent surgery six weeks ago for a “very aggressive cancerous malignancy,” and while the procedure went well, he’s canceling the remainder of his European tour — beginning with tonight’s show in Manchester — as he continues to recover. New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills — the Martin Phillipps-led group that long has carried the banner for the Dunedin sound — will return in September with a new album titled Snow Bound, and you can already get an earful of two songs off new record. Stream them both right here.

Sirius XM’s 1st Wave channel today begins its Fourth of July “4 for The Cure” weekend, with four-song blocks by Robert Smith and Co. every hour through Sunday, coupled with special all-Cure editions of Lori Majewski’s “Lust for Lists” and the Slicing Up Eyeballs-hosted “Dark Wave,” which airs at 10 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
