The generally dour Mark E. Smith, longtime mastermind of The Fall, brightens up a bit — cracks a smile, even — in this new video for “England’s Heartbeat,” an unofficial World Cup single supporting England that’s due out on CD next month. The track is credited to one-off band Shuttleworth, which features Smith, former Fall member Ed Blaney and Jenny Shuttleworth, aka Girl Peculiar. It’s no “World in Motion,” but it’s got a certain sloppy charm.
