The Teardrop Explodes

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  1. “Sick For Toys” by the Sugarcubes/Björk for (the next after next) Sunday’s show

  2. Cabaret Voltaire – Sensoria

    please

  3. Thank you Matt for including Mark E Smith (Godlike in my eyes) and Bernard Sumner in new waters for my ears.
Can you play Home and Garden “From The Life of King John” ? Outstanding Cleveland post punk era band, better known for “Hideout”, King John is well, just better if you ask me.
Thanks Matt! Wonderful show. I hope David Bowie was listening to that closing track.

  4. Kitchens of Distinction – Prize

  5. Anja Huwe -Rabenschwarz

  6. Super awesome show Matt!!! I especially loved hour 2 – a lot of favorites in there!! Thank you for playing my NIN request — I too love the Broken album….it’s super aggressive, raw, and in your face!! He/they were definitely in fine form on that one. Some possible suggestions for next time:

    Depeche Mode – Sweetest Perfection
The Jesus and Mary Chain – Sundown
The Cure – Endsong (the new album is gorgeous)

    Thanks again as always!! 。◕‿◕。

    • I second the new Cure song – the whole album is a masterpiece!

      • It truly is ….very Disintegration – es que

        • Absolutely agree with you Tina and Patrick! Just an exquisite album from start to finish. Really glad we got to see several of these tracks live on the last tour.

Also just recently saw JAMC with the Furs and Sundown is a great track that I’ve never heard them play live. And damn, that’s a great DM track as well!

  7. Crass – The Unelected President (1981) available on Apple & Qobuz
Executive Slacks – Say It Isn’t So (1986) available on Qobuz

  8. Great DW!

    Here’s a request –

    Snake Corps – Animals All

    Thanks!

  9. Great set from top to bottom. Couldn’t agree more with your words about The The in concert, I caught them in Oakland last Thursday. And I have to say the show was exactly the therapy I needed after the debacle that was last Tuesday. Thank you Matt Johnson and co.

Thanks for playing my Fall request, much appreciated! In honor of The Wedding Present recently announcing the 35th anniversary tour of the Bizarro album, how about a dealer’s choice cut from that great record? “Bewitched” would be my vote, never heard that one on the radio before.

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  10. To make up for the lack of The Smiths in this week’s (wonderful as always) show, I’m going to talk about The Smiths.

I was fortunate to see The Smiths in concert twice. The first time was at the Beacon Theater in NYC in 1985 when they were touring in support of Meat in Murder. In the finale of the show they did a long jam of “Barbarism Begins at Home”, during which Morrisey started pulling people up on stage to dance with him – which annoyed the venue security guys who rushed out to toss them right back into the crowd. This in turn annoyed Morrisey who started pulling people up faster than the bruisers could toss them back, all the while verbally taunting the security guys. They were not pleased, but Morrisey was obviously delighted. It. Was. Mayhem. Close to a riot, really… and it was AMAZING! Best concert ever.

Yes, this is my long way of asking if you’ll play “Barbarism Begins at Home” on your fine and vital show.

As far as the second time I saw the Smiths in concert…. let’s just say, Morrisey famously runs hot and cold. I was extra glad I caught the Beacon Theater show.

  11. Great show, especially loved the first hour. Meanwhile, started delving into more Genesis-P and Psychic TV. Had no idea that MESH — “Meet Every Situation Head On” was Genesis-P + Dave Ball! If it’s not too disco for dark wave, requesting that!

  12. Awesome playlist. 808 State was fire. Totally unexpected.

For an offbeat request, how about Moev – Crucify Me
