“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  1. Hot damn Matt Sebastian you did it again! Thank you for the Heroes. Return of the Living Dead is the best horror movie and the Surfin Dead is the best song in it. I have the pleasure of seeing the SoM next week after being fortunate enough to catch them at the Roundhouse in London years ago. Awesome request that was chosen. Let’s add :

    Sisters of Mercy – Adrenochrome

Mr. Sebastian, you’re good for the soul. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work.

  2. That was one helluva show. That might be the best one this year. I’ll have to listen to it a few more times and let you know.
Thanks for the Blackouts. Have a great week.

  3. Great show tonight! Are you familiar with the band This Eternal Waiting? A rather obscure gem from 1980s Dublin — in the future I would love to hear their song, “The Prize.”

  4. Hi Matt, loved the selection tonight, a few of those tracks I discovered. How about a little Switchblade Symphony (Dollhouse)?

    Thanks!

  5. Amazing show, as always! I didn’t grow up in this era so I love all these “hidden” gems you’re introducing me to. I do have a request for a future show tho. Can you play Hello Skinny by The Residents for me? I’d appreciate it and I think it’d go great during a moodier section of Darkwave.

  6. “Ullyses” by Dead Can Dance for (the next after next) Sunday’s show

  7. Way to kick things off with Suicide. I’m streaming right now and this is another top notch show. Matt, your shows never disappoint – bravo! And thank you for including my recent requests for JAMC and David Bowie – you’re the best!

A request for a future shoegaze block: Ride “dreams burn down”
Wishing Matt and all the dark wavers an awesome week.

  8. That Peter Murphy song…gets me every time.

  9. How about “Waves” by Blancmange?

  10. Just looking over the playlist and dang! A lot of tracks I had never heard before which is super cool!!! I can’t wait to listen. What’s not cool is what went down at the Jane’s Addiction show the other night…..the tour is cancelled TWO days before the Toronto show. Le sigh ……I am super bummed as I had never seen Love & Rockets live.
I’d like to request Ball of Confusion – the state most of us were in until the official word this morning.

    Thanks again as always! 。◕‿◕。

  11. Lovely to hear some Current 93 in there!

  12. Japan – Ghosts

  13. Sublime set from start to finish. Can’t pick a winner, all 3 hours were on point. Thanks for playing The Wake, I hadn’t heard that track in a long time, great call. So many great deep cuts last night.
And once again, we can never have too much Big Black.

Request for a future show: “Revolution” by Spacemen 3.

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  14. Great set as always Matt. How about something from the following bands in a future playlist?

Every New Dead Ghost – Not In A Lifetime
Children On Stun – Cats Or Devil’s Eyes
    The Wake (US) – Christine

    Thanks Eric

  15. Great show — need to check out more of the Blackouts and Pink Turns Blue.

Also saw Front 242 this weekend in LA, which was great. Never would have been there if it weren’t for you, Matt.

    Thank you!

  16. great set… I agree with you re: dub versions. Really liked that 2-fer. It was a fun, dark ride throughout, but the sequencing of the last 5 or 6 songs in hour two… sublime!

Tempted to request Idiots Rule but it feels too mean rn… Perry seems to need some help that I hope he gets. How about Chip Away instead? seems about right for him right now <3

  17. Excellent autumn-tinged DW!

    Here are some requests –

    The Rosemarys – Color Wheel
Public Image Ltd. – Low Life

    Thanks!

  18. Greetings, Matt. Love your show. I listen to it every time I take a road trip or need to zone in and get a lot of work done. I especially like it when you add in some of the darker tunes from artists not always known for their dark side. A few suggestions to fill that spot in the future…

    Human’s Lib — Howard Jones
Born, Never Asked — Laurie Anderson
We Prick You — David Bowie (hell, anything from Outside fits the bill)

  19. Talking Heads – The Overload (1980)
    Gargoyle Sox – Sickness (1985)

  20. Hi Matt Enjoy your show each week. Please play I’m Going Home – Tim Curry

  21. Sean Whitaker

Has anyone seen that the Southern Gothic Festival is going to the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA as the only stop in the US. The March Violets are headlining but Mark Burgess from The Chameleons is listed as an opener ??

    • Looks like March Violets headline on Friday 10/25 and Chameleons on Saturday 10/26, at least according to the 40 Watt Club site. Wish I could go!
