FX’s “The Bear”
R.E.M.’s 1994 single “Strange Currencies” features prominently — and repeatedly — in the new second season of FX’s hit streaming show “The Bear,” and the band is capitalizing on that with a new music video for the song and a digital EP that collections three versions of the Monster track.
The video, which you can see below, mixes together footage from the show and from R.E.M.’s 1996 concert film “Road Movie.” And the digital EP — which can be purchased via Amazon.com or streamed below via Spotify — features the remixed version of the song from the expanded Monster reissue, the album version and the live recording from “Road Movie.”
The show itself uses that remix, the original version and a “never-before-heard” demo of “Strange Currencies” that apparently is still not being released.
R.E.M.’s music was used in the first season of the high-stress culinary hit, and the new season also features music from The Replacements, Counting Crows, Wilco, Pixies, The Psychedelic Furs, Pretenders, Nine Inch Nails, Liz Phair, The Durutti Column and more.
