After releasing new albums with her bands Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave in recent years, Kristin Hersh this September will put out her first solo record since 2018, a collection called Clear Pond Road that is preceded by the gorgeous single “Dandelion” — which you can stream below.
Fire Records will release the 10-song Clear Pond Road on Sept. 8, and the album can be pre-ordered now on digital, CD and vinyl formats. She’ll follow the release with a tour of the U.K., Ireland and Australia that runs from late September through mid-November; U.S. dates are expected to be announced, too.
The label describes Hersh’s new album — her 12th overall — as something of a departure from her past solo work, being “more inward looking, quieter but outspoken, underpinned by background noise for ambience and awkwardness.” The album also features strings and mellotron.
“Passion sounds less angry, more grateful, I think,” Hersh says in the announcement of the album, “sweeter, sadder. And somehow, no less alive… over car engines and rain in New England and whistling ducks and wind chimes in New Orleans, it all sounds wistful to me.”
The new solo album follows the release last year of Black Pearl, the second full-length from Hersh’s band 50 Foot Wave, as well as the 2020 release of Sun Racket, the 10th studio album from the legendary Throwing Muses.
