If you missed out on the limited-edition vinyl pressing of Tones on Tail’s lone studio album — 1984’s nine-song set Pop — released for last year’s delayed Record Store Day, Beggars Banquet is issuing a standard LP edition this spring.
Beggars is taking pre-orders for the standard edition of Pop, which to be shipped around April 9.
The sold-out Record Store Day edition and this new release both are on black vinyl with audio cut from the original analog master. Each has a new sleeve featuring revised artwork. The difference between the two is that the Record Store Day edition had silver-foil text on the sleeve, and the new pressing does not.
Last year’s Record Store Day release was the first-ever reissue of the Bauhaus spin-off’s album on vinyl. The short-lived band featured Bauhaus (and future Love and Rockets) members Daniel Ash (guitar, vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums) along with bassist Glenn Campling.
In an interview with Baxie’s Musical Podcast released earlier this week, Ash was most effusive about his work with Tones on Tail, which he revisited a few years ago while touring with Haskins as Poptone.
“I think we were really breaking new ground with that,” Ash told the podcast. “If you listen to that stuff now, it sounds like it could have been recorded last week because it’s not in any category at all. What I’m very proud of with that band is it sounds like it’s from another planet.”

Funny… I just ordered the RSD album Pop yesterday.
Yep…. another tone deaf release from a record label. Every record store in my town still has RSD copies sitting on the shelf for purchase. 62 copies for sale on discogs. Most of them well under the original suggested price.
Why not reissue the Weird Pop compilation instead? Only got a limited vinyl release in 2011 and now impossible to find without trading a body part.
Jazz, you are right there does seem to be plenty RSD versions still out there.
