Electronic-music giants New Order and Pet Shop Boys today announced they will delay their highly anticipated 12-date North American “Unity Tour” a full year, with a new itinerary to be announced shortly that will begin in September 2021 instead of September 2022.
Though the bands’ formal announcement of the postponement did not cite the coronavirus as the reason for the tour’s delay, at this point that goes unsaid as the timetable for the return of concerts, festivals and other mass gatherings remains unclear — and it seems increasingly unlikely we’ll see such events this year.
The bands’ co-headlining tour — with the shows’ closing act rotating each night — was to have opened Sept. 5 in Toronto and wrap up with shows on Oct. 2 and 3 in Los Angeles, with stops in between in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Columbia, Md., Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver and San Francisco.
The two bands say tickets for the original dates will remain valid for the new concerts, but “refunds will be available if required in due course.”
