The Jesus and Mary Chain are back in the studio working on the group’s second post-reunion album — the follow-up to 2017’s Damage and Joy — with plans to “hopefully” release it in 2020, and, if not, in 2021, Jim Reid told the publication Cryptic Rock in a recent interview.
In the interview posted Tuesday, Reid talks about the band’s history and reuniting with his brother William in 2007, and the recording of Damage and Joy, their first new LP since 1998.
When asked about new music, Reid responds:
“We actually have started recording. We recorded a few tracks a couple of months ago and then we took a break. The plan is to try and have a new record out next year. Will it come out? Hopefully, if not it will be 2021, but I think it will be 2020.”
The Mary Chain currently are scheduled to head back out on the road in March and April, performing their 1987 album Darklands in full at shows in the U.K. and Europe.

Glad to hear there is more new music on the way. While I liked “Damage & Joy”, I thought it drew more than it should have from Sister Vanilla “Little Pop Rock”
I hope to hear some new stuff from the boys. I. Love every thing they have done. From their early days right up to damage and joy.
