The Cure today announced the addition of a fifth and final 30th anniversary performance of the band’s magnum opus Disintegration to its late-May run in Sydney, Australia — and this last concert will be streamed live around the world for all to see.
The fifth concert will take place May 30, and will be streamed online beginning at 8 p.m. Sydney time — which is 3 a.m. in Los Angeles and 6 a.m. in New York City. Event organizers, however, promise “the performance will be available on-demand from Sydney Opera House’s YouTube channel and Facebook page for a period of time after May 30.”
According to the promoters, the May concerts will feature a full performance of Disintegration to be followed by “a selection of rarely performed B-sides plus specially curated deep catalog cuts.” The Cure still plays a good portion of Disintegration in concert, and played the full album, though not in order, during 1989’s Prayer Tour. It has not played the record front-to-back, however, since 2002’s Trilogy concerts in Berlin.
“TODAY MARKS 30 YEARS SINCE THE RELEASE OF THE DISINTEGRATION ALBUM – AND WE ARE VERY PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE TO CURE FANS AROUND THE WORLD THAT WE WILL BE GLOBAL LIVE STREAMING OUR FINAL PERFORMANCE FROM SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE 30TH MAY, WHERE WE WILL BE PLAYING THE ALBUM IN ITS ENTIRETY pic.twitter.com/f2CZUDmLuc
