Ahead of tonight’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the members of The Cure past and present walked the red carpet, where Robert Smith managed to drop a bit of news, saying the band “probably” will perform Disintegration on tour in the U.S. later this year.
The interviewer during that livestreamed red-carpet appearance asked Smith about the band’s plans to celebrate this year’s 30th anniversary of the landmark Disintegration. The band already has announced plans to perform the 1989 album Down Under four times this coming May.
“We’re going to be playing some shows at the Vivid festival in Sydney, in Australia, just to commemorate it,” Smith said. “And probably, to be honest, we’ll probably do it here a bit later in the year.” (In an interview after the ceremony, Smith said, “Before the end of the year, I’m sure we’ll have played in North America.”)
It’s not the first hint the band will be touring the U.S. this year; keyboardist Roger O’Donnell in a prior interview talked about “possibly American shows in the fall.” But it’s the first time it’s been confirmed that those plans to play in the U.S. would center around a full-album performance of Disintegration.
But not only that. Smith noted in his Rock Hall interview that “we’ll also be playing new songs,” a reference to the band’s first album in more than a decade, which is expected sometime later this year. Smith said the record, whose title has not been revealed, “will be the best thing we’ve ever done by a long way.”

Yes, I believe those were the ones. Didn’t recognize Boris so well. I agree, he was the best drummer the cure ever had!!
I cannot wait to see Reeves play Van Halen solos over Plainsong and Untitled.
You hit the nail on the head. Reves is a fantastic guitar player, but I don’t need to hear some blistering solos over a beautiful song like Untitled.
When he is just playing the cure he is ok, but when given some slack he goes off the rails. His sound doesn’t fit the cure.
Again, I think he is a great guitar player and probably a cool dude to hang with. I just wish he would stop trying to make The Cure sound like he does.
