Seven years after the band’s first nomination, The Cure has once again been put up for induction into the Rock and Hall of Fame, along with Devo, Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, Janet Jackson, Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, LL Cool J, Rage Against the Machine, MC5 and more.
The 15 nominees for the Class of 2019, unveiled this morning, also include John Prine, Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn, Def Leppard, Todd Rundgren and The Zombies.
Inductees will be announced in December.
To be eligible for induction into the Rock Hall, artists must have released their first album or single 25 years ago. The Cure first was eligible in 2004, but until today, its only nomination came in 2011 for the Class of 2012. Devo, eligible since 2003, is a first-time nominee this year, while more contemporary acts Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine are each up for consideration for a second year in a row.
Kraftwerk, eligible since 1995, has now been nominated five times, as has LL Cool J.
Fans can vote for their preference at the Rock and Roll Hall’s website, though that has very little bearing on the actual decision as to which acts will be inducted.
This year’s inductees included The Cars, Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Nina Simone. Nominees Kate Bush, Depeche Mode and Eurythmics didn’t make the cut, joining the list of ’80s-era nominees — including The Smiths and The Replacements — that have been nominated, but ultimately snubbed by the Hall of Fame.

Facepalm.
How do you not include smiths, cure, def leopard, replacements??? Wtf? Hall of fame doesn’t deserve credibility give me a break!!!
who really cares?, they do not need to be recognized by the mainstream big corporations. The true fan really understands their value to alternative music.
Here Here
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about as rock and roll as modern country radio stations. Any respectable band should tell this Disneyland of pop music to fuck off.
Time for the annual reading of the John Lydon letter….
Without Kraftwerk they are completely misrepresenting electronic music. And as we saw with all the polls we’ve had, misrepresenting alt. rock by repeatedly snubbing The Cure. They’ll focus on sales again this year rather than history and def leppard will sail on in.
Good idea!
“Next to the SEX-PISTOLS rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain. Your museum. Urine in wine. Were not coming. Were not your monkey and so what? Fame at $25,000 if we paid for a table, or $15000 to squeak up in the gallery, goes to a non-profit organisation selling us a load of old famous. Congradulations. If you voted for us, hope you noted your reasons. Your (sic) anonymous as judges, but your still music industry people. Were (sic) not coming. Your (sic) not paying attention. Outside the shit-stem is a real SEX PISTOL.”
“F**k Robert Palmer! F**k Rock & Roll!” -Simon Gallup
Thick as shit.
You just know it’s going to be Radiohead, Def Leppard, Devo, Rage Against The Machine and probably Todd Rundgren.
Radiohead will get in ahead of the Cure because the Hall seems to favor 90s acts over 80s artists, hence Nirvana and Green Day having already been inducted over Depeche Mode, Cure, Joy Division etc.
Kraftwerk will be snubbed again because electronic music just isn’t there thing.
Don’t be too surprised if the Cure or Depeche Mode never even get nominated ever again and the 80s era will be forgotten in favor of people like Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan and ….I can’t even say her name….that horrible Canadian woman that spent the 90s whingeing about her boyfriends
Already woted: Def Leppard, The Cure, Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music (Tomorrow I will vote for Devo, Kraftwerk, Rundgren and Zombie and the day after tomorrow I will vote for Def, Cure etc) 5 it’s not enough.
