Marc Almond today announced he’s reuniting with Dave Ball for the first time in 15 years to commemorate Soft Cell’s 40th anniversary with one final farewell concert — dubbed, naturally, “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye” — at London’s O2 Arena on Sept. 30.
Also in the works: A new Soft Cell box set via Universal Music and “maybe a couple new songs as well,” Almond told BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans this morning (hear the whole segment below).
The synthpop outfit released three albums — including the classic 1981 debut Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret — during its original run from 1977 to 1984, then reunited in 2001 to tour and record a new album, Cruelty Without Beauty, which was released the following year. The band dissolved again after touring into 2003.
Tickets for the O2 Arena gig, promised to be a one-off, will be available via a fan pres-ale beginning Thursday with general sales beginning Friday. Watch Soft Cell’s website for details.
