Trevor Horn’s L.A. studio — used by Pet Shop Boys, The Art of Noise — destroyed by wildfire

Famed producer Trevor Horn’s residential studio in the Los Angeles hills — a six-bedroom home and state-of-the-art recording facility above Bel Air — is among the hundreds of structures lost in the devastating wildfires currently tearing across Southern California.

Horn tweeted the news Thursday, writing of the SARM West Coast studio: “We haven’t been able to get there yet, but by all accounts it’s completely burnt down.” He then vowed, “We will build a new one.”

According to SARM’s website, Horn has used the Los Angeles studio — a companion to the original in London — to work with Pet Shop Boys, The Art of Noise, Seal, Belle & Sebastian and more. In more recent years, Lana del Rey, Kanye West, Charli XCX and One Direction have recorded at the facility.

Outside of his more behind-the-scenes production work, Horn remains best known as a member of the Buggles and co-writer of the group’s era-defining hit “Video Killed the Radio Star.”
