MBV Watch: Kevin Shields prepping new My Bloody Valentine album for 2018?

The time has come once again, it appears, to dust off our old MBV Watch feature, as rumors now are swirling about reclusive guitar-noise genius Kevin Shields being at work on a new My Bloody Valentine album — the follow-up to 2013’s mbv — for release sometime next year.

As Pitchfork notes, Shields has been booked to play Norður og Niður, Sigur Ros’ upcoming festival in Iceland, and his official bio on the festival’s website says he’s “working on material for a new My Bloody Valentine album to be released in 2018.” The bio also says he’s working on new “all analog vinyl versions” of the band’s first two albums, Isn’t Anything and Loveless.

There’s no official word, outside of that, of plans for a new MBV record.

Our MBV Watch feature was born in 2009 to track the oft-delayed release of Shields’ CD remasters of those two albums (they finally came out in 2012 after upteen schedule changes), and it went on to chronicle the relatively short ramp-up to the release of mbv, the 22-years-in-the-making follow-up to Loveless.

Now, we’ll track this alleged new MBV album. Patience, friends.
