Classic synthpop outfit Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark this week announced they’ll release their 13th studio album — the group’s first record since 2013’s English Electric — this September, to be followed by a fall tour of the U.K. and Europe.
The 12-song The Punishment of Luxury — written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD’s Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys — is due out Sept. 1 via White Noise Records. It’s preceded by the track “La Mitrailleuse,” which you can hear via the animated video shared below.
Of the new record, which takes its name from a 1891 painting by Giovani Segantini, McCluskey says:
“On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns. The trouble is, we just cant help but write a catchy melody!”
OMD will follow up the release of the record with a tour of the U.K. and Europe that begins in late October and runs through November into December. Before that, however, the group will play a handful of dates in California, Mexico and the Dominican Republic this summer.
Below, see the album’s tracklist, hear the first song and check out OMD’s tour dates.

Hmm if that what they choose to release first doesn’t bode well
Dave they released the ‘short’ ones first as a teaser from the last album as well. ‘Atomic Ranch’
Looking forward to it :)
What no NY City concert dates?
Hope they plan to play NYC would hate it if they do not play the New York City.
Excited and looking forward to the new album.
How about a Chicago date? I had tickets to the Metro show in 2013, but Malcolm’s medical situation forced the remainder of the tour to be cancelled.
