Cherry Red Records this week announced plans to release a five-disc box set titled Silhouettes & Statues: A Gothic Revolution 1978-1986 that will chart the evolution of the U.K.’s goth movement over 82 tracks that span the late ’70s through the mid ’80s.
The label’s official description of the set, to be released June 2 June 30:
“From the cold reality of post-punk, through positive punk and the Batcave scene and into the mid-1980s. Over 80 tracks, previously unseen photographs and 18,000+ words of sleevenotes, including contributions from artists.”
The collection features an impressive array of key acts of the era, from big names like Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, Love and Rockets, and The Mission to lesser-known groups such as Folk Devils, Lowlife, Inca Babies and Sad Lovers and Giants.
UPDATE: The box set is now available to pre-order via Amazon.co.uk (it’s about $40 shipped to the U.S.).

Impressive!
If you would like somebody to take an advance copy for a test-spin, I volunteer!
Such a wonderful list I can not wait for it to be released!
Really? No Siouxie? She is the Godmother of Goth, omitting her is tragic.
Awesome selection but am a disappointed that faith and the muse is not there… It’s the only band missing in my opinion
Of COURSE they’re not included, the track list ends in 1986, DUH.
Looking forward to this for sure. I picked up Cherry’s Action Time Vision set a few months ago and it’s excellent. I have the catalogs of a good chunk of the artists listed but getting tracks from bands beyond out of print is worth it all. There were gems galore on Action and this looks the same.
No Danse Society? Seriously?
Virgin Prunes? Asylum Party? Clan Of Xymox? The Jesus & Mary Chain?
Great list but leaving out the banshees is a travesty and sex gang children were one of my faves. Some of the tracks I wouldn’t consider goth either.
So glad to see The Legendary Pink Dots on here!
