Tommy Stinson on Replacements reunion: ‘I just don’t know if we have it in us’

The ReplacementsDespite word last fall that The Replacements’ Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson spent a few days jamming in Minneapolis, Stinson tells Billboard.com that it’s unlikely the ‘Mats are getting back together.

“You know what? I just don’t know if we have it in us,” he told Billboard this week. “We’ve played together and we have things to offer each other. But I think ultimately it’s like, why would we do it? The question comes up every time. Why would we do it? Well, they’ll pay us really great. Is that the reason to go do it or not? I don’t know.”

It also sounds like the latest round of reissues may be the last material from the band; Stinson said the best material is now out there, and it’s unlikely that any live album will see release.

Fans last year were treated to the second round of Rhino’s reissues, which supplemented each of the band’s major-label albums with a bevy of bonus tracks (including oddities and outtakes such as the ‘Mats short stab at the Pixies’ “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” tacked onto the tail end of Don’t Tell a Soul).

  1. I don’t think that the Replacements have in them.
You know with Tommy Stinson from Guns n Roses and Bob gone for good. The thrill is gone.
Money just aint the issue anymore.

  2. I’d love to see Stinson and Westerberg play together again. Hell, they don’t have to call it the Replacements and they both have enough songs under their belts that they wouldn’t have to touch any of the old Mats tunes.

  3. I dont know if I have it in ME! All we can do is hope for the best. I’m voting “Slim to win!”
