Depeche Mode songwriter and co-founder Martin Gore next month will release a 16-track electronic instrumental album titled MG, a collection Mute Records is billing as the “soundtrack to an emotional and mysterious film of your own design.”

Due out April 28, MG is written and produced by Gore, and came about after the end of Depeche Mode’s Delta Machine tour in March 2013. It was recorded at Gore’s home studio in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Of the project, Gore says:
“I wanted to keep the music very electronic, very filmic and give it an almost sci-fi like quality. Music is a necessity for me. I go into the studio at least 5 days a week, every week, so once I had the idea and the template, the process was quick and fun.”
The album follows the similarly instrumental VCMG record he did with onetime bandmate Vince Clarke in 2012, which is why he’s putting it out under the MG moniker: “As the album is very electronic and has no vocals, I felt it deserved another persona so decided to carry on the MG concept from the VCMG album.”

Otherwise known as “music to cure insomnia”… What is with these clowns? They can’t write a decent song anymore, live shows have become the same ‘greatest hits’ setlist every tour, it takes 4 years to make an album…
I wish they would just give us a pure synth pop exciting album like the ’81 – ’90 period. And for the love of God, move “Walking in my Shoes” from the same spot in the setlist it has been in over the last 20 years!!!

Just listened to Europa Hymn – liked it, found it interesting, but not very compelling.
I have to be honest, even though i love DM and they are my #1 band, i really hate when they do solo stuff, i was never a fan of Gahan’s solo albums or Gore’s Counterfeit projects, just get your arses back into the studio and get on with it! Why do they need 4 years between albums?
@jos Yeah i see where your coming from, i guess they do need to shake things up a bit, they have become a bit of a machine sadly.
I also think it’s worth pointing out that in the last five years, Erasure have written, recorded and released three full length albums, Depeche Mode have released just one.
DM are just in it for the money. It’s been the same cyclical process over 4 years. Release a shitty record, tour, bank the money.
No passion, nothing outside the box (like a full album show), just the same 4 year cycle. Boring. Obviously just a business at this point.

I have hopes this will be a good album. i really like the work Dave Gahan has done with Soulsavers and VCMG was excellent as well. I would like to see the DM machine get more creative and take more risks. It does seem they are playing way too safe these days.
I find this great. Finally something with atmosphere again from Gore. Love it! Want more!
