Next year’s shaping up to be a good one for fans of Lloyd Cole, as the singer-songwriter this week announced a nine-date U.S. tour — with the promise that “there will be more” shows added — and has revealed that he’s at work on a six-disc box set collecting material he recorded with The Commotions in the mid-to-late ’80s.
The tour, in support of his 2013 album Standards, which received a belated U.S. release this past October, opens Feb. 3 in Seattle and runs through a pair of dates, Feb. 12 and 13, in Atlanta. In between, Cole will play Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Austin and Dallas (see full dates below).
As for the box set, our friends at SuperDeluxeEdition note that Cole has revealed on Facebook that he’s working with Universal Music to compile a Lloyd Cole and the Commotions box set that will feature reissues of the band’s three albums — 1984’s Rattlesnakes, 1985’s Easy Pieces and 1987’s Mainstream — plus a B-sides disc, a rarities disc and a DVD collecting videos and TV appearances.
On Facebook, Cole wrote:
“Commotions Box Set Rarities disc, if we can find all the tapes, is looking like 20 tracks, 18 of them previously unreleased. Including ‘lost’ Paul Hardiman, Stewart Copeland and Chris Thomas productions, and loads of demos.”
No tracklists are yet available, and Cole has said the box set should be released later in 2015.
