The Replacements’ reunion train continues to roll on, and now will hit the Pacific Northwest late this summer as Seattle’s Bumbershoot this week announced its 2014 lineup, which will feature the ‘Mats, Elvis Costello, Mission of Burma, The Afghan Whigs, Jonathan Richman, The Dream Syndicate, Negativland, a performance of Big Star’s Third and much more.
For Replacements fans, it’s the latest in a run of mostly festival appearances by the reunited band, which is performing tonight at the Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta. The band also has a lone standalone concert set for Sept. 13 at Midway Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.
Bumbershoot could get interesting, as it features both the ‘Mats — who helped introduce a generation to Big Star through their single “Alex Chilton” — and the performance of Big Star’s Third, led by surviving bandmember Jody Stephens, who has been joined by the likes of R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Mitch Easter of Let’s Active and Chris Stamey of The dB’s at past stagings.
Tickets for Bumbershoot, set for Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 at Seattle Center, are on sale now.
It should be noted that conveniently, the ‘Mats, Dream Syndicate, Big Star Third and Mission of Burma are all appearing on the same day of the festival. That will make for a good day.
