The reunited Afghan Whigs this morning offered fans their first taste of upcoming seventh album Do To The Beast with the premiere on Spotify of the first track off that release: “Algiers,” a four-minute, mostly acoustic ballad that’s dirtied up, in the middle, with a fuzzed-out electric-guitar solo and Greg Dulli’s intonations to the “heavenly demons outside my window.”

The album, the band’s first in 16 years, is due out April 14/15 worldwide on Sub Pop Records. The new track is the Whigs’ first since the band — which formed in 1986 and split in 2001 — got back together to record a pair of new songs for its 2007 compilation Unbreakable.
UPDATE: The band has now premiered a Western-themed video for “Algiers” and announced a short run of tour dates around its appearance at Coachella this spring. See both below.
