Simple Minds will embark next week on an extensive U.K. tour in support of the band’s forthcoming Celebrate — The Greatest Hits+ best-0f collection — out Monday in double- and triple-disc configurations — but fans in that country will get another chance to see the band come November, when Jim Kerr and Co. play four arena dates with special guest Ultravox.
Simple Minds announced the arena dates with Ultravox early today after the latter band’s frontman, Midge Ure, first posted news of the concerts on his own website, and included a statement announcing the tour: “It’s unbelievable to think that this will be the first time two of the outstanding rock bands so influential in the ’80s have ever shared the same stage in the U.K.”
Ultravox will join Simple Minds as support in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London in late November following Simple Minds’ dates in The Netherlands, Belgium and France (see full dates below).
In other Ultravox news, Ure’s website also reveals that a live concert from October 2012 that was filmed in HD will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in mid- to late summer.
Meanwhile, Simple Minds have released a video for “Broken Glass Park,” one of the two new songs on the band’s upcoming best-of; watch that below.

33 UK dates – As a US citizen, this baffles me. The UK in total is smaller than Texas. I have to travel 300 miles to LA to see many of my favorite shows since Phoenix is unfortunately a somewhat high risk booking for promoters. It seems if you like in the UK you can see Simple Minds maybe 10 times or more and not travel that far.
Surely ultravox will be headlining (playing last) at these shows!
Might check out the Manchester show
