Not only will Sonic Youth do a highly improbable guest turn on teen soap “Gossip Girl” next week, but the band also is releasing a new acoustic version of its 1986 single “Starpower” — the song the band performs on Monday night’s episode.
Recorded over the summer in Portland, Ore., between tour stops, the new version of the EVOL track will be available beginning Tuesday through the band’s SonicYouth.com store, either as just a download, or bundled with a special T-shirt or a limited-edition, hand-numbered, metallic-silver-ink on matte-black cover stock poster of the original “Starpower” single’s cover art (shown above).
The track also will be sold through iTunes as a single packaged with the album version of The Eternal’s “Antenna.”
