The reunion of The Stone Roses is still six months out, but frontman Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire gave fans a preview last night when they performed on stage together for the first time in 16 years at the Manchester stop of the “Justice Tonight” tour headlined by The Clash’s Mick Jones — who is performing his old band’s songs.
The two Roses appeared on stage for the second night of the six-date tour, performing their song “Elizabeth My Dear,” then brought out Jones, former Wah! leader Pete Wylie and The Farm to perform the Clash’s “Bankrobber” and the old Willi Williams reggae song “Armagideon Time,” which the Clash famously covered and from which the tour’s name is taken.
The tour in support of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign is raising money for the friends and family of the 96 people who lost their lives in the Hillsborough football disaster in 1989. The trek is headlined by Jones, who is performing Clash songs on tour for the first time since 1982.
