Record Rack: A weekly round-up of the pertinent new releases hitting stores this Tuesday:
ARTIST: Lloyd Cole
ALBUM: Cleaning Out the Ashtrays
FORMAT: CD
BACKSTORY: This four-disc U.K. box set features 59 unreleased songs, original demos, alternate takes, hard-to-find B-sides, covers and more, all spanning the Brit singer-songwriter’s 21-year solo career. Cole went through boxes of old tapes and CDs himself to compile this set.
ARTIST: Living Colour
ALBUM: The Paris Concert
FORMAT: CD
BACKSTORY: A companion to last year’s DVD of the same name — recorded during the reunited band’s 2007 European tour — this two-disc live document features favorites such as “Type,” “Cult of Personality” and “Funny Vibe,” as well as covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic” and the Talking Heads’ “Memories Can’t Wait.”
ARTIST: Killing Joke
ALBUM: Duendes: The Spanish Sessions
FORMAT: CD
BACKSTORY: This disc chronicles the first time the band’s original lineup had played together since 1982. Recorded in bassist Youth’s studio, the band prepped for its 2008 reunion tour by running through cuts such as “Requiem,” “Tension” and “Eighties” — you know, the one Nirvana ripped off for “Come As You Are.”
