Former Jam leader Paul Weller this morning announced he’ll release his 11th solo album — the 14-track Sonik Kicks, featuring appearances by Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon — in March, and will preview the new collection with two pre-release London concerts at which he’ll perform the new album in its entirety.
Due out March 26 in the U.K. and March 27 in the U.S., Sonik Kicks is preceded by album track “Around the Lake,” which is available for sale in the U.K. iTunes store. Below, you can check out the track “accompanied by a sequence from a short film that Paul is a fan of called ’24hrs, Pavey Park,’ which was directed by Mike Moloney and John Hooper.
The album — Weller’s follow-up to 2010’s Mercury Prize-nominated Wake Up the Nation — will be available in a standard CD release, a hardback book edition featuring a bonus DVD with as-yet-unannounced content and an exclusive art print, and on vinyl.
According to the announcement of the new album posted on Weller’s website, “Sonik Kicks reveals Paul Weller once again shaking up his palate and stirring his influences anew, mixing pop art punch with soulful communication, jazzy explorations into psychedelia and dub with razor-sharp melodies, abstract soundscapes with clear-eyed forest-folk.”
Weller will preview the album by playing it in full at London’s Roundhouse on March 18 and 19; those tickets go on pre-sale beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday via The Ticket Factory and then go on general sale at 9 a.m. Friday, according to Weller’s website.
