The now-defunct R.E.M. will release its first-ever career-spanning greatest-hits collection — Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011 — in November, and Rolling Stone reports the set will include “a handful of tracks” recorded earlier this year following the completion of the band’s final album, Collapse Into Now.
The double-disc set hasn’t officially been announced by the band or Warner Bros. and the tracklist is not yet known, but Amazon.com lists the title as being scheduled for release Nov. 15.
The new collection will mark the first time R.E.M. has been able to release a compilation that includes both its classic ’80s output on IRS Records and its later Warner Bros. material; past sets have either compiled IRS hits (Eponymous, And I Feel Fine… The Best of the IRS Years 1982-1987) or the Warner years (In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003).

Cashing in on retirement, lol. Why not schedule a few ‘farewell’ shows around this release? My bet is this deal is not done yet, there will be some pressure to end this with a farewell show or two.
oh come on its not like broke up 5 or 10 years ago and decided to do a reunion tour to make some bucks. they just broke up and they didn’t even tour the album that came out in the spring. heck look at how many bands that broke up in the 80’s went on tour this summer to make a few bucks.
