Thirty-five years ago today, a nascent Siouxsie and the Banshees — with co-founders Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin joined by Sid Vicious on drums — played their first concert at London’s 100 Club Punk Special, opening for The Clash and the Sex Pistols.
Below, you can hear a truly bad bootleg of the historic event, which found the Banshees wailing through a single 25-minute jam based around “The Lord’s Prayer” that included “Deutschland Uber Alles,” “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” and “Twist and Shout.”
Severin posted a link to the show on his Facebook page today, writing, “Happy b’day Banshees. As seriously horrid now as it was 35 years ago. Job done.”
Of course we cannot forget Marco the Ant on guitar!
Bring on Stinky Toys!!!
Horrid as the sound quality may be – we have to salute the taper for giving us a chance to listen at all!
Indeed. History in the making with this performance. :)
