After marking the 30th anniversary of their debut Los Angeles with a run of West Coast dates last Christmas, roots-punk legends X will reprise that show — featuring a screening of “X: The Unheard Music” and a performance of the 1980 album front-to-back — on a 10-date tour this fall.
At each concert, the band will show the 86-minute documentary, released in 1986 and featuring performances filmed between 1980 and 1985, prior to taking the stage, then X’s original lineup — John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and D.J. Bonebrake — will perform Los Angeles in its entirety and play “a lot more.”
After a slot at the Red Bull Riot Fest East alongside Descendants and The Dead Milkmen in Philadelphia on Sept. 24, the Los Angeles tour opens Sept. 25 in New Jersey and runs through Oct. 8 in Denver, with shows on the East Coast and Midwest (see full dates below).
Last year, when X played Los Angeles on its Christmas run, the record’s producer, Ray Manzarek of The Doors, joined the band at a pair of special shows in San Francisco. You can see video below of Manzarek with X performing a pair of Los Angeles tracks: “Nausea” and a cover of The Doors’ “Soul Kitchen.”
