Bernard Sumner’s New Order spinoff Bad Lieutenant this week posted its first single, “Sink or Swim,” on the band’s MySpace page in advance of its official Sept. 28 release.
Beginning Aug. 28, the band — featuring Sumner, late-era New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham and singer-guitarist Jake Evans of UK act Rambo and Leroy — also will offer fans a free download of the tune (which, basically, sounds like a more organic, kind of jangly version of New Order) if they sign up for Bad Lieutenant’s mailing list.
The band’s debut album, Never Cry Another Tear, will be released Oct. 5, and features appearances by New Order drummer Stephen Morris and Blur bassist Alex James.
