Morrissey releasing new ‘Very Best Of,’ will issue 2 ‘Viva Hate’ outtakes as B-sides

Morrissey

On the heels of last year’s Bona Drag reissue, Morrissey in April will release a new greatest-hits collection — the 18-track The Very Best of Morrissey — featuring an unreleased, Siouxsie-less version of “Interlude,” and will precede the set with a single backed by two unreleased Viva Hate outtakes.

Due out April 25 in the U.K. on CD and double-vinyl via EMI’s relaunched Major Minor imprint, the new comp features singles, album tracks and B-sides, plus U.S. radio mixes of “Tomorrow” and “My Love Life,” the singer’s nine-minute version of “Moon River” and a previously unreleased take of “Interlude” without duet partner Siouxsie Sioux, according to an EMI news release posted by fan site True To You (see full tracklist below).

The new set also will feature a bonus DVD with 11 promotional videos — including clips for “November Spawned a Monster,” “The Last of the Famous International Playboys” and “Everyday is Like Sunday” — and a live performance of “I’ve Changed My Plea to Guilty” from the “Jonathan Ross Show” in 1990 (see that performance below).

The week before, on April 18, the former Smiths frontman will release Your Arsenal track “Glamorous Glue” as a single in three formats: limited-edition 7-inch in a picture sleeve, limited-edition 7-inch picture disc and a CD single. The singles will be backed with two “never before heard” outtakes from the Viva Hate sessions: “Safe, Warm Lancashire Home,” which will appear on the 7-inches, and “Treat Me Like a Human Being,” on the CD.

  1. Could we please skip the endless version of “Moon River”?

  2. Great. So we have to buy more of the same to get a couple “extras.” Screw Mozz. He’s totally living his lyrics.

    “Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
    Re-evaluate the songs
    Double-pack with a photograph
Extra Track (and a tacky badge)”

  3. What sharp insight, Glenn. Why in the hell would you buy this album to begin with if you feel that way?

I have to stop looking at Morrissey-related comments on this site. Too frequently, they are just plain moronic.

  4. Couldn’t agree more, Tim.

I’m almost to the point of simply pasting those lines from Paint A Vulgar Picture at the first sign of EVERY single Smiths related post.

Kind of like the “first!” phenomenon, but instead serving the noble purpose of pre-emasculating every twat out there with delusions of wit and insight.

    ugh.

    “FREEBIRD!!!”

  5. Well, Tim and Robert, I guess we’ll all just bow down to everything our musical idols do and say, no matter how backwards it may seem. Talk about moronic.

Well said, Glenn. Ignore the chapped lips of the bottom-kissers.

  6. Well said? Good grief. Morrissey and Jesus. Love the guys, but think their followers are the biggest dipshits roaming the planet.

  7. yay! i feel like im in high school again! grats fellas! :P

  8. Another best of? Well, i guess it has been 4 years and one album since his last greatest hits album.

Geat over youself Steve and either release some new stuff or retire.

A Smiths reunion would be cool though….

  9. Gotta agree with Glenn. LOVE the Smiths and most of Mozz, but I’m not buying this stuff AGAIN. Seems like my faves from my teen years are just cash in on anything they can get. So far away from the way they were back in the day.
