Renowned producer Trevor Horn promised “very special guest artists” for tonight’s one-off Buggles reunion concert, and he’s delivered: In addition to opening act Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, former Yazoo singer Alison Moyet and Claudia Brücken, of Propaganda, are slated to appear.
Billed as “The Lost Gig,” tonight’s concert at Supperclub London will feature the Buggles’ first-ever full live performance, with the band’s original lineup — Horn, Geoff Downes (currently playing with Asia) and Bruce Woolley — performing its 1980 debut album The Age of Plastic — featuring “Video Killed the Radio Star” — as well as “an assortment of hits” from Horn’s back catalog.
According to Horn’s website, Moyet will join the Buggles onstage “to perform a Yazoo classic, and a legendary Trevor Horn single.” Additionally, Richard O’Brien — who wrote the original “The Rocky Horror Show” musical and starred as Riff Raff in the film adaptation — will join the Buggles “for a couple of numbers.” Finally, Brücken is scheduled to appear with OMD during the reunited synthpop act’s opening slot.
Tickets still remain for the show — a benefit for London’s Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability — and for those of you in the U.K., they can be ordered here. And for those who can’t attend, Horn already has announced “no DVD or live CD will be released.”
