Record producer and engineer Stephen Street — who worked on three albums by The Smiths before producing and co-writing Morrissey’s solo debut Viva Hate — will be the guest on this week’s episode of the “Sound Opinions” radio program, billed as “the world’s only rock ‘n’ roll talk show.”
Street — pictured above with Morrissey during the recording of Viva Hate in 1987 — is expected to discuss his work with the Smiths (he engineered Meat is Murder and The Queen is Dead and co-produced Strangeways, Here We Come) and Moz, as well as the numerous hit Blur records he produced throughout the ’90s.
The show — hosted by Chicago music critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis — premieres today and runs throughout the weekend on public radio stations across the country; by Monday morning, it also will be available here to stream online or download as a podcast.
If you don’t listen to “Sound Opinions” regularly, it’s worth going back and checking out this late-January episode that features Pixies frontman Black Francis and the show’s co-hosts delving into the recording of 1989’s Doolittle.
