Playlist: Sirius XM’s “Dark Wave” — hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs (12/1/24)

David Bowie (and Trent Reznor)

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  1. Hot damn that was such a commentable show. Terror story, Lady Shave, triple dose of my personal favorite male goth? More, Final Impact, and Skeletal Family? Please and thank you. Severed Heads? Quite possibly one of your top ten shows. Know what we were dangerously in lack of however? Shoegaze. You put that love of the genre in me and now I have a powerful hankerin for those dreamy sounds. So could we hear:

    My Bloody Valentine- Only Shallow

It’s one of their most popular songs for a reason. Feels good in your ear. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work and for an absolutely wonderful evening.

  2. Excuse me, how embarrassing. Four iterations of my personal favorite male goth. Youre the best

  3. “The Tinderbox (of a Heart)” by Cocteau Twins for (the next after next) Sunday’s show

  4. Great show tonight! For the next one:

From side to side – Lowlife

    Thanks!

  5. Constantine

How about some New Dark Age by The Sound for a future show Matt ?

  6. Tubeway Army – Steel And You

  7. I think this my favorite ep you’ve put together in the three years that I’ve been listening.

I have two requests, one a bit outside the box.

“Save Yourself” by the Make Up

    And

    “Homosapien” by Peter Shelley

    Hope your holiday went well!

  8. Thoroughly enjoyable show last night. Any show that includes Bowie is a welcome treat. I also really enjoyed the Daniel Ash superfecta, that was a nice touch. And that Nurse With Wound cut is so damn good! I need to hear more from them.

Dane got me thinking shoegaze and I have to thank you Matt for introducing me to this particular request, either last year or maybe the year before? For the holiday spectacular how about digging up “Like a Snowflake” by Ride.

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  9. Hi Matt,
I’d like to request Wire – The Finest Drops.
    Thanks!

  10. A really great program Matt – I especially loved hour 1! I haven’t heard Stripped in ages! I hope you’re stuffed with turkey, and ready for some suggestions for next time!

Faith No More – Midlife Crisis
    Ministry – Just Like You
    Skinny Puppy – Sleeping Beast

    Thanks again as always!! 。◕‿◕。

  11. This episode is fan-freaking-tastic. Terror Story, my favorite Gun Club track, Mambo Witch, The Names, Dept S. Man you just nailed it this time round.

For a future episode, would like to ask for some early Bolshoi. “Sob Story” or better yet, their great cover of “Amsterdam”. “Books on the Bonfire” would be nice as well.

Thanks and have a great week.

  12. This show never disappoints! Thank you for playing my Bowie request. And I enjoyed the extra servings of Daniel Ash.

A request for an upcoming show:
    Concrete Blonde “beware of darkness”

    Thank you!

  13. Great show! I’d like to request Groove Grease (Hot Catz) by Nurse With Wound. Thank you!

  14. Good morning Matt- I didn’t have a chance to listen Sunday night but I’ll pick it up on the app this week. With the upcoming holiday season, I would like to hear Seeing Red -Killing Joke.

  15. Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed – In Our Sleep (1994) Apple Qobuz
The Bollock Brothers – The Slow Removal Of Vincent Van Gogh’s Left Ear (1982) Apple Qobuz

  16. Great show as always, Matt.

My father passed unexpectedly yesterday. In his memory, I’d love to hear “If It Be Your Will” (either the Leonard Cohen or Antony version — both stunning) on a future show.

  17. Great show!

In the Nursery. I haven’t heard that in over 30 years! Excellent selection.
Also agree with you that Open is one of the Cure’s best. Love that whole album.

An industrial request.. Chemlab – Filament

  18. Good show!

  19. Loved “Black Rainbow.” I got Dreams Less Sweet and Jack the Tab on vinyl and I am really digging them…

  20. I only just discovered your show last August! Maybe not surprisingly it was while my husband and I were driving home fairly late on Sunday night from an Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison concert in Tarrytown NY and we had the car radio still on First Wave, so I said “Hey, that Dark Wave show I’ve heard about is on now!” It was while “Lucretia My Reflection” was playing but back in 1990 I only knew it as “that Sisters of Mercy song with the catchy bass hook”. So I realized this show was useful for me to finally learn the titles of these songs.
I was a DJ for WOSR on the Ohio State campus from 1988 until its demise by 1993. Your show brings back so many memories from that slice of time in my young adulthood.
I request a really funny song by Killdozer we used to play called “Hi There”. If you can’t find that, alternatively I’d like a track from Bad Mood Guy by Severed Heads called “Dressed In Air”; it’s relatively short.

  21. I have a shoegaze request for next time you do a segment on.
    Chapterhouse- Come Heaven
