Playlist: Sirius XM’s “Dark Wave” — hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs (10/6/24)

Slowdive

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  1. “Killer In the Home” by Adam + the Ants for (the next after next) Sunday’s show. Thanx!

  2. Wonderful show. Ending Hour 2 with that Swervedriver double was genius. Thanks for a full dose of shoegaze.
Can’t recall if I first heard about it on this show or not, but there’s an album called Goth Oddity. Lots of Darkwave bands covering Bowie. Would like to request a cut off that. Either Rozz Williams doing “Time” or Alien Sex Fiend doing “All The Madmen”. Or any other cut off it you might prefer.

Thanks for the great music. Have a good one.

  3. So fun to hear my request played last night :-) As always another great show!!!!

Depeche Mode – Any Second Now

  4. Always down for Flipper and A4B

    Jock O Rama next week?

  5. WOW! This was just fantastic from start to finish… Thank you for kicking off the extended shoegaze block with my Ride request! So many of my favorites in the setlist including JAMC, Bunnymen, Love and Rockets, Verve, PIL, Spacemen 3…And I also love “Ghosts Again”.

A request for a future episode:
    Wire “Lowdown”

    Thank you!

  6. I love when you start the show off with NIN – Last! Excellent shoegaze set!

  7. The Wedding Present – Monochrome

  8. David Bowie – Beauty And The Beast (1977)
The Rose Of Avalanche – L.A. Rain (1985)

  9. My goodness what a show last night! A full hour of shoegaze bliss, amazing. Thank you for reminding me how underrated Bowery Electric and Seefeel are. And my all time fave Velocity Girl track, so good. Dare I say this was the best show of the year. Hours 1 and 3 were also chock full of bangers. Thanks so much for closing the show with my Spacemen 3 request, that was just perfect.

I’ll skip a request and listen to the replay all week. There are a bunch of really great requests above already.

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  10. Holy cow I loved this program…. probably my favorite yet. I loved every single song on the playlist!!! The full hour of shoegaze was absolutely epic. Two thumbs way up!!!!! I’m seeing the tour you referenced tomorrow night in Rochester (Pych Furs & JAMC). I’m super excited – I’d like to request Snakedriver by Jesus and Mary Chain – one of my favorites from them.

    Thanks again as always!!!!! 。◕‿◕。

  11. Looks like the extended shoegaze set was well received. I’ll throw in my compliments as well. That full album version of Never Lose that Feeling was great to hear!

  12. extended shoegaze set was everything ive ever wanted. thank you

  13. How about digging up Positive Noise’s “…And Yet Again”?

  14. Great bookends to that second hour of ‘gaze!

    Here is a request –

Killing Joke – We Have Joy

    Thanks!

Also, can we make requests for the Halloween episode, and if so, when should they be sent in?

  15. Loved the second hour. The Verve was a nice surprise!

  16. Hey Matt,
What a face melting shoe gaze block!

  17. I would like to request Public Image Limited- Seattle or maybe The Ramones – Teenage Lobotomy which is a short song but so punk.

  18. Pardon my french, but that show was fucking kick ass! I loved it overall the whole show was fantastic every hour had a favorite tune, that kept me hooked. I must say that hour two would be my particular favorite because you played so many fantastic songs, also thanks so much for playing Swervedriver I have never heard that song before. I loved it so much that I bought the album the next day. Alright sorry for the long ramble time gor the request If possible, I know it is a long song, but if possible could you play my favorite Spiritualized tune
“ Cop Shoot Cop” by Spiritualized
This would be great, but like I said I completely understand if you can’t find a slot for it, keep up the great work and of course the shoegaze too. Thanks

  19. I really loved that show especially the shoegaze hour, now I have some shoegazer songs for future shows, whenever you feel like playing any of them is fine with me.
    Drop Nineteens- Kick the tragedy
Skin and hair trading company- Loa
    Loop- soundhead
    Spectacle- withered
Rollerskate Skinny- So far down up to heaven
    Reverberation- it’s all over now
    Mercury Rev- chasing a bee
Also always a good request although not shoegaze
Revolting Cocks – Do ya think i’m sexy
The most original version of that song

  20. How amazing, this show was fantastic. I loved everything about it every single song was great.
There are not many ways to improve, if any. Thank you for such a great show. The best there is on SiriusXm. Some great highlights that hit me in the face were the tracks by The Cure, Swervedriver, MBV, Love And Rockets, Spacemen 3 and Chapterhouse. If you could please play either of these songs that would be great. Thanks in advance
Should Have Know Better by Ministry. Or.
The Vehicle Is Invisible by The Swirlies.

  21. Excellent show! Would like to request an incredible song from an Italian band called Victrola. They only ever released one 12″ single, but that single is an astonishing slice of darkwave. “Maritime Tatami” absolutely slays, if you’ve not heard it before. Thanks!

  22. I’m requesting “Mother of Mercy” by Samhain off the November Coming Fire album. Great album for this time of the year.

  23. Randall Griffith

Hey Matt, great show as usual. Just saw The The’s opening night of the U.S. tour in Atlanta last night and it was great! They closed the show with “Giant,” one of my all-time faves. Please play it on a future show if you can fit it in. Thanks.

  24. Matt- a big THANK YOU for your announcement on a previous show that the Sisters of Mercy were on tour. I would’ve totally missed them. I was able to see them in San Diego on 10/5/24. They were great live. Over the years, I’ve saved many of my concert tix, and it made me feel incredibly nostalgic when I realized I had seen the Sisters at the exact same venue back in 1991. Thanks again for the heads up!

  25. Thank you Matt!!!!!! For the full hour of Shoegaze!!! Much much appreciated by many of us religious listeners

  26. I loved the 2nd hour shoegaze set! Maybe do that monthly like the first sunday of the month or something. :)

  27. Colin Newman’s Order for Order, Jury, would be nice from 1980.
