Virgin Prunes

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  1. I love to hear hot versions of the fundamentals, case in point Join in the Chant. That Laibach cover, love it a little more every single time I hear it. It is a tragedy about Love and Rockets, without rubbing it in, one of the best live acts I’ve seen. I feel like we need more TKK in our collective lives, may I suggest :

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult – Waiting for Mommie

Always fun to hear songs used in the bumpers. Here’s to hoping for a Love and Rockets tour announcement. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work.

  2. Bombers off living ornaments ‘’79 was superb. Great way to end the show.

  3. Clan of Xymox – “Evelyn”
    in honor of my Mother
    Please n’ thanks Matt

  4. Matt, thank you for another fine installment of the dark stuff. Highlights for me include Tones on Tail, Kraftwerk, Dalis Car, Sugarcubes, Echo and JAMC’s lovely cover of “My Girl”.

And I’m on a JAMC kick right now (currently reading Never Understood) so my request for an upcoming show is: “Gimme Hell”
    Cheers!

  5. Iggy Pop – The Endless Sea (1979)
The Art Of Noise With Max Headroom – Paranoimia (Paranoid Mix) (1986)

  6. Please play Wolfsheim’s Once in a Lifetime!

Love this show so much! Thank you :)

  7. Lovely show last night, already on repeat this morning. Loved hearing Eno’s original “Third Uncle” that was awesome. Got to see Bauhaus play that as an encore back in 2019 and it ripped. And I have to admit I had a good chuckle when you plugged that trip to NYC on Sirius’s dime to see Coldplay and followed it up with Ministry’s “So What.” When I end up in hell Coldplay on a loop will be my eternal punishment.

Just picked up Bad Seeds tickets for next May in San Francisco. How about some “Stagger Lee” on a future show?

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

    • Nathan, your Coldplay comment made me laugh out loud. My own version of hell includes Coldplay on repeat!

      • Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one! I have a feeling there are likely some other darkwavers who feel similarly about Coldplay. Give me Ministry every single day of the week forever and ever.

And Matt, thank you for playing the Peter Murphy cover right after a great Smiths track. Much appreciated, as always!

  8. Another great one. Thank you so much for “Third Uncle!”

  9. Wowza I felt like I was transported back to the club in the early 90s with Godlike and Join in the Chant! Very cool!! I’ve been on a soundtrack kick lately and while the first Crow was pure brilliance, the second Crow soundtrack is worth a listen again…

Some possible suggestions for next time:

Pet – Lil Boots (from aforementioned soundtrack)
    Pixies – Winterlong
Placebo – Every You Every Me

Hey look at that all P bands! Perfect!!

Thanks again as always Matt! 。◕‿◕。

  10. Alien Sex Fiend – Class of ’69

  11. “Typical Girls” by the Slits for (the next after next) Sunday’s show

  12. PS Thank you for playing my Kraftwerk request!!!
    xoxo

  13. Thanks for playing Butterfly Potion!. I enjoyed that well-placed Ministry track too.

Can you please play Wood Soup by Hilt?

  14. Awesome show as always. Can we hear London After Midnight – October and Bauhaus – Nerves??

  15. Also: Front 242 – Moldavia ‍♂️

  16. Another classic DW for a September!

Here is a request going into October –

    Samhain – Archangel

    Thanks!

  17. Can you please play Bruises(extended single) by Gene loves Jezebel. I’m dedicating this song to Veronica, for being a great friend.
