New Order
New Order will reissue its era-defining compilation Substance 1987 this fall on double LP, double cassette and a 4CD expanded edition that will include a bonus disc of B-sides and alternate versions as well as a live disc recorded on the band’s 1987 tour.
Rhino Records will release the newly remastered Substance 1987 in multiple formats — including a retail-exclusive blue-and-red colored vinyl pressing — on Nov. 10, alongside reissued 12-inch singles for “True Faith,” “True Faith Remix” and “Blue Monday 88.”
The 4CD expanded edition, a 2LP black-vinyl pressing and the digital edition can be pre-ordered now via Amazon; other packages are available through the label’s webstore.
The compilation, originally released by Factory Records, included all of New Order’s singles to date in their 12-inch versions and, on the CD and cassette editions, many of their B-sides. It also featured newly re-recorded versions of “Temptation” and “Confusion,” and then-new single “True Faith” and its B-side “1963.”
The 4CD edition includes the original first and second discs — the singles and B-sides, respectively — plus a third disc “with alternate versions and extra B-sides,” and a fourth CD with a previously unreleased concert recorded at Irvine Meadows in Southern California on Sept. 12, 1987, at which the New Order played Substance in order.
