Noel Gallagher and his post-Oasis combo Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds stopped by Maida Vale Studios this past week to play a three-song set for the BBC Radio 2 Piano Room series that included a string-accompanied cover of the Joy Division classic “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
You can watch the performance in full below.
Gallagher and his band were accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra for the performance, which also include airings of the band’s own songs “AKA… What a Life!” and “Council Skies.”
That other Gallagher — Liam — was none too impressed by Noel’s rendition, referring to it on Twitter as a “piss poor and damn rite blasphemous version” of the song.
I must once again apologise on behalf of my family for Rkids piss poor and damn rite blasphemous version of joy division’s love will tear us apart tut fucking tut SORRY

Just watched this with my 10yo son who knows the original all too well, he had one word: terrible. Indeed.
Noel Gallagher and his self inflated ego needs stay out of some bands catalogue.
I’ve heard much worse. Seems he should have went with cellos and not violins. He rushed the lyric. And the guitars were a bit clangy. I think he also buried the signature Hooky’s bass work.
Totally missed the vibe of the song. The Swans did an excellent cover back in the 80s.
Well, that’s 30 seconds of my life I will never get back.
Whatever from the band that was the Journey of the 90s
What the others have already said…
This is absolute dogshit.
God, I would love to fart in his mouth.
