Cherry Red Records this summer will release the latest in its series of box sets commemorating extremely specific U.K. musical subgenres with a 57-song collection that attempts to distill the indie-dance crossover that was the Madchester/baggy scene.
The four-disc Come Together: Adventures on the Indie Dancefloor 1989-1992 — featuring The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and more — is due out July 28, and can be pre-ordered now via Amazon.com.
The box set chronicles the collision of dance music and guitar rock that hit the U.K. in the late ’80s, focused largely on Manchester and New Order’s Haçienda nightclub. The set features more well-known fare like the Primal Scream track that gives it its title, the Roses’ classic “Fools Gold” and Happy Mondays’ “Step On.”
Also included: music from Candy Flip, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, James, The Farm, The Mock Turtles, The Charlatans, The Candy Skins and more. The set also is notable for the sheer number of remixes included.
