Bob Mould will return to the road later this year for a 23-date tour that’ll find him performing the first run of shows with his eponymous trio with the remainder being solo-electric performances, all under the banner of “Distortion and Blue Hearts!”
The tour’s name combines the names of his ongoing Distortion box-set series and last year’s Blue Hearts studio album, and runs from Sept. 16 through Oct. 24. For the first 15 dates, Mould will perform with the Bob Mould Band, featuring Jason Narducy on bass and Jon Wurster on drums.
Of the tour, Mould says:
“It’s been a year and a half away from the stage. I’ve missed the noise, the sweat, and seeing your smiling faces. I’m fully vaccinated, and I hope you are too, because this fall will be a punk rock party with the band — and the solo shows will be loud and proud as well. It’s time to make up lost time, reconnect, and celebrate together with live music!”
First, though, Mould will release the latest in his box-set series — the 8LP Distortion: Live on 140-gram clear splatter vinyl, available for pre-order now — on July 16. The set includes four live albums: Live at the Cabaret Metro 1989, Sugar’s The Joke Is Always On Us, Sometimes, LiveDog98 and Live at ATP 2008, with the latter two making their debut on vinyl.
The box set also includes a 28-page booklet with liner notes, photos and memorabilia, plus a bonus LP called Distortion Plus: Live, featuring live rarities, B-Sides and cuts from the “Circle of Friends” concert film.
