Sinead O’Connor is returning to the concert stage after a four-year hiatus with a short Irish tour this fall — and she made her public re-appearance last week with a stunning performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” and The Pogues’ “Rainy Night in Soho” on Irish TV’s “The Late Late Show.”
As you can see from the video clips below, O’Connor — clad in a hijab (she converted to Islam last year) — performs her powerhouse Prince-penned breakthrough single, as well as the Pogues favorite off of 1985’s Rum Sodomy & the Lash, backed by her own band and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
O’Connor will play seven Irish concerts and festival in late September and October; see dates below.

Her voice is still still sooo amazing. And her live shows are so fantastic because of THAT VOICE, what a gift she still makes music for us. Wish more people would see her talent for what it is…she really is amazing.
Nitpicky correction: “A Rainy Night In Soho” is not from the “Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash” album. It was on the “Poguetry in Motion” EP that was released after RS&L.
The contents of that EP were added as bonus tracks to the CD version released by Rhino in 2006 (which was the first time in the US the album, or the contents of the EP was available on CD in a domestic issue.)
Wow. I literally have tears in my eyes right now. Stunning still.
Yeah. Wow.
Nothing compares to her original. Not so impressed with this performance.
Nothing compares 2 Prince. Except Sinéad singing her cover. Lovely performances of both, chills throughout in the best way.
I love her voice and always have but her political views ruined her career. There is more than one way of selling out and she sold out. I’m all for being different and individuality but she just took a big shit on the USA and expected us to like it. When she didn’t get her way she turned her back on God and Christianity and nothing she does will prosper because of it. I know some of you will disagree with me but having differences of opinion is what thousands died for.
