Thomas Dolby will be heading out on tour in the U.S. this summer with a show in which he’ll “deconstruct half a dozen of my favorite songs.” In announcing the tour’s concept on Twitter, he also offered a clip of what fans won’t see: him and Rick Springfield covering The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.”
That fan-shot video — which you can see below — was taken aboard The ’80s Cruise last month, during which the pair performed The Cure’s classic 1987 single.
One thing you WON’T be likely to see in my show is me jamming with Rick Springfield on The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’ :) https://t.co/3zXoRM01uP

As for the upcoming tour, Dolby writes on his website:
“In this intimate solo show I will deconstruct half a dozen of my favorite songs, telling the story behind their creation while breaking down the beats, chords, keyboard parts, and synth sounds, looping and layering them until I’ve recreated the entire song. My simple rig is a couple of keyboards, a drum pad, and a MacBook, the output of which is projected on a screen behind me, so the audience can see ‘under the hood’ while I build and perform each piece.”
He’s announced a handful of dates so far; see them below, along with his Cure cover.
