For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we turn the clock back to 1984 to find Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders on the comeback trail, touring in support of their acclaimed third album Learning to Crawl, recorded and released in the wake of the drug-overdose deaths of founding members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon.
MTV filmed the band’s April 8, 1984, performance at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich., for an hour-long broadcast as part of the network’s “Saturday Night Concert” series, and you can watch that full, hit-filled (“Back on the Chain Gang,” “My City Was Gone,” “Brass in Pocket,” “Middle of the Road,” “Time the Avenger”) set below via uploader Señor Huesos.
