The reunited Belly — Tanya Donelly’s post-Throwing Muses, post-Breeders alt-rock outlet — will release its first album in 23 years this May, an 11-song collection that’s being previewed by first single “Shiny One” and will be supported by U.S. and U.K. tours later this year.
The new album Dove is the band’s third, and the follow-up to 1995’s King. It’s due out May 4. Below, you can hear the first single, which Donelly says “the first completely collaborative song we’ve ever done.”
In announcing the new record, Donelly discusses how the reunion came about:
“We had just gotten to the point where we were just missing each other, and missing the music. The music I’ve been doing in the past several years has been very collaborative, which made me kind of homesick for Belly; I missed that sense of having a band.”
The band — also featuring Chris and Tom Gorman, and Gail Greenwood — will appear at the Boston Calling festival in late May, then embark on a U.K. tour throughout June, followed by a run of U.S. dates in August, September and October.
