John Lydon’s reactivated Public Image Ltd. will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with tours of the U.K., Europe and Japan, along with the release of a new documentary and a career-spanning box that are both titled “The Public Image Is Rotten,” the band announced today.
PiL today unveiled initial spring and summer tour dates for the U.K. and Europe (see below), and said a “very special London date” is still to be announced, along with a tour of Japan and further dates in the U.K. and Europe. There was no mention of any plans to tour North America.
Tickets begin going on sale Friday; see PiL’s website for pre-sale and on-sale details.
The band also announced plans for a theatrical release later this year of the Tabbert Filler-directed documentary “The Public Image Is Rotten,” which has screened at a few film festivals already. Plus, there’ll be a new career-spanning box set of the same name, though no details of what that’ll contain. PiL has released two new studio albums since its last career-spanning set, Plastic Box.
Since reuniting in 2009, PiL has featured Lydon and late-’80s members Lu Edmonds (ex-Damned guitarist) and Bruce Smith (onetime drummer for The Slits and The Pop Group), as well as bassist Scott Firth.
