The Stray Cats, the high-octane rockabilly trio that became an unlikely New Wave-era breakout in the early 1980s, will reunite for the first time in nine years this April to perform at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, guitarist/frontman Brian Setzer announced this week.
The band — Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker — will perform at the Las Vegas festival on April 21, following sets by rock ‘n’ roll forebearers Duane Eddy and Jerry Lee Lewis. Tickets are on sale now.
The Las Vegas appearance is being billed as The Stray Cats’ first North American performance in 10 years, though that’s not quite right. The band — which has reunited several times, beginning in the late ’80s, and through the early 2000s — last performed April 10, 2009, in Minneapolis for Setzer’s 50th birthday.
