Wayne Hussey admits he’s no fan of live albums, but he knows other people like them, so he’s come up with a plan: The Mission will record one of its tour rehearsals — a more “controllable environment” than a concert — for release as a two-disc live set called Bending the Arc.
The Mission has invited fans to the final day of rehearsals, on Nov. 7, for the band’s upcoming arena dates opening for Alice Cooper in the U.K. The live album then will be released as a 2CD or 3LP set, including various merch bundles, that are now available for pre-order via Live Here Now and PledgeMusic.
Hussey, the band’s frontman, explains his reasoning on The Mission’s website, saying a rehearsal environment also will allow a more flexible setlist that could find the band digging deep.
He writes:
“The idea, mine so blame me, is that a rehearsal scenario is a controllable environment as opposed to the mayhem and unpredictability of a ‘live’ show. As musicians we will have more control over the quality of the performance and recording. Also, we won’t be beholden to the set list we will probably be playing on this upcoming run of shows. There doesn’t have to be yet another ‘live’ version of ‘Wasteland’ or ‘Deliverance’ included on this release, the emphasis being on more recent releases and live versions of rarely recorded songs previously such as ‘Like A Child Again’ and ‘Swoon,’ to name but two.”
Hussey also offers that the band will consider fans’ requests (“bearing in mind that we need to know how to play it”), and those can be submitted via The Mission’s Twitter or Facebook page.
